Unique in Jacksonville, company offering holistic health options

A nurse practitioner with over eight years of healthcare experience has opened a unique business in most of Illinois outside of Chicago.

Jacksonville native Holly Pennell opened Cloud Nine Aesthetics in early July at 307 E. Court St., where she offers treatments such as Botox. She will begin offering IV hydration in August. Services are available by appointment only.

Pennell is interested in holistic medicine, which is about prevention, as opposed to traditional medicine, which is more about solving problems once they have happened.

“It’s better to deal with the problems directly than to take a bunch of drugs,” Pennell said.

Outside of several locations in Chicago, there are a rarity of locations downstate that offer Pennell’s services.

“I know people who drive multiple hours to get holistic health care,” Pennell said. “So I know there’s a need in this area. And there’s nothing like it in the area.”

She began offering Botox treatments for cosmetic purposes and medical conditions such as TMJ disorder, which can cause pain in the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement.

IV hydration with vitamin infusion treatments will focus on energy first and healthy hair, skin and nails second. The benefits are felt almost immediately, Pennell said, and the treatment can be repeated every two weeks.

Pennell said she had a good response from customers. Its ultimate goal is to operate Cloud Nine full-time, have registered nurses help operate the clinic, and be open Monday through Friday. She still works full-time as an Affiliate Nurse Practitioner at the Springfield Clinic.

Pennell holds a Master of Science in Nursing and is a Certified Nurse Practitioner. She has experience in emergency medicine and intensive care.

“I think what sparked my interest in this direction was patients looking for alternative solutions,” Pennell said.

In the fall, Pennell hopes to expand her services to offer a cosmetic procedure called microneedling, also known as collagen induction. It involves pricking the skin with tiny sterilized needles. Small wounds cause the body to produce more collagen, which can heal the skin and help the patient look younger.

In the long term, she wants to be certified in anti-aging medicine and holistic medicine and offer treatments for infertility, hormonal imbalances and weight loss.
