The Animatricks International Animation Festival will be held in May 2022


The Animatricks International Animation Festival, the only film festival in Finland focusing solely on animation, will be held from May 19 to 22, 2022 in Helsinki. The festival is organized by Finland’s largest association of animation professionals, Finnish Animation Guild.

Animatricks 2022 International is already accepting registrations and will be open until January 15, 2022. All animated shorts (less than 30 minutes, opening credits and endings included) produced after January 1, 2020 can be submitted. Entrances are free.

Films can be submitted in the following categories:

  • International competition
  • National competition
  • Juniors competition
  • Experimental competition
  • Documentary Competition

Other eligibility criteria:

  • Films submitted to previous editions of the Animatricks festival are not eligible for re-registration
  • Advertising films are not accepted. Animated TV series and their episodes are also not accepted in the competition.
  • At least 50% of the length of the film must be animation
  • Movies must have English subtitles if they are not in English or without dialogue
  • A screening copy must be submitted in an appropriate digital format
  • The selection will be made on finished productions only

The selection committee appointed by the organizer selects the films for the competition. The results of the selection will be announced in March to all participants as well as on the website.

The festival jury will select the winners in the following categories:

  • Best international film
  • Best national film
  • Best Student Film
  • Best Junior Film
  • Public Prize

There may be several categories for the award ceremony depending on the final animation festival program.
