PixelOpus recruits a PS5 exclusive in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation

yesterday’s PlayStation blog post on the future of Sony’s proprietary studios has kind of opened the floodgates for those in the early stages of development. Days Gone developer Bend Studio has confirmed they are working on a new IP, Team Asobi has been officially introduced as an in-house team, and now Concrete Genie maker PixelOpus has revealed they will be collaborating with Sony Pictures. Animation for a new PS5 title. The news was confirmed via a new job offer looking for a Senior Graphics Programmer, who also mentions the new Unreal Engine 5.

PixelOpus also advertised the post on Twitter, posting: “We are working hard on an exciting new title for PlayStation 5 and continue to grow. Join us on this unique project within #PlayStationStudios!” It looks like the project is in the early stages of development, but it’s still exciting to know that the team is up to something alongside Sony Pictures Animation. The job posting reads: “We are looking for a Senior Graphics Programmer to assist in our development process as we tackle exciting opportunities for innovation and rendering through a collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation.”

What the collaboration might involve is guessable at this point, but it’s certainly a good game. After creating the vibrant and colorful world of Concrete Genie, the world is its oyster for PixelOpus. Sony Pictures Animation recently released the Incredible Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, and upcoming projects include a sequel for the animated web-slinger as well as a ghost hunters spin off. It is also working on Hotel Transylvania: Transformia, with a release slated for next month.

What do you think the two companies could work on together? Share your theories in the comments below.
