The following contains spoilers from the third episode of Lucifer Season 6.
Three episodes in his farewell race, Netflix Lucifer introduced her titular devil and former detective Chloe Decker in a way you’ve never seen before, when revisiting their past has taken them into a literally bustling mental landscape.
In “Yabba Dabba Do Me”, as Lucifer grapples with his apparent destiny to be God, Linda nudges him to see if he can care about someone as despicable as, say, the whole thing. The series’ first caught killer, record producer Jimmy Barnes.
But because Jimmy had since died in a mental institution, Lucifer and Chloe had to visit him in hell. There, before setting foot in the 1980s, they spent time as animated characters – because, we will learn later, young Jimmy marathoned television cartoons after being abandoned by his mother.
Invited to rate their animated selves in the TVLine video above, Lauren German says that Jennifer Coyle and the team that brings HBO Max Harley quinn à la vie “did a great job” with Chloe and Lucifer. German and costar Tom Ellis also confirm that they were able to record their dialogue together, in adjoining cabins, which is not always the case with the lively kitchen.
Ellis is then the target of an ongoing visual joke, as the gorgeous chin of the cartoon Lucifer has quite the dimple in the middle.
“I remember having a very long discussion with [co-showrunner] Joe Henderson on how my chin could get butt, ”Ellis shares, noting that the plan was to“ give [British cartoon icon] Desperate Dan a run for his money!
German then explains how she was trained to be more alive with her voice, like the cartoon version of Chloe.
“I remember they told me – in the The kindest way – ‘Lauren, can you be a little more lively?’ », Remembers the actress. “I realized I had a bit of a monotonous voice … so I was really! trying! To keep! the energy! in all Single phrasing! I had to add a little more to the voice department when I’m animated.
