Organizer Caroline Penman is delighted to be back for this popular three-day event: âWe are delighted to finally be back in the famous village hall to host our popular antiques event. Our exhibitors will present a sumptuous fair full of fresh and tempting products. It will be a great opportunity for people who have spent months looking at antiques online to finally see and examine many very fine pieces. And, for anyone who has also moved in the past year, there will be plenty of rooms to furnish and accessorize their home. ‘
A highlight will be a rare and impressive royal coat of arms carved in linden wood and decorated with gilding dating from 1775 (53 cm x 60.5 cm) bearing the mottos Dieu & Driot (Dieu et droit) and Honi be qui mal y pens ( Shame on anyone who thinks badly about it). This will be shown by Lennox Cato, the furniture and interior specialist and a regular on the television Antiques Roadshow. Lennox Cato’s unique pieces, on display at Petersfield Fair for the first time in many years, also include ‘The Hornby Desk’, a stunning little Italian toggle desk that once belonged to Charles Harold Hornby, founding partner of WHSmith. The desk is remarkably decorated with polychromy and dates from around 1750-60.
Of local interest will be a colorful pair of papier-mÃ¢chÃ© trays, each decorated with views of Brighton, one showing the famous Chain Pier and the other St Peters Church. Signed H. Cox, they date from 1840-50.
Also presented for the first time, Bonnon’s Antique Glass, specializing in 18th century drinking glasses and tableware, and Southern Clocks & Frodsham Clocks, showcasing a full line of interesting and stylish timepieces.
Regular exhibitors include furniture specialists MJ Bowdery and WRHarvey & Co of Winey and art galleries Michael St John, specializing in beautiful English watercolors, Paul Mayhew with oils from the 19th and 20th and Art of the Imagination with the illustration art and sculpture. 18th and 19th century pottery and porcelain will be featured on the stands of Jupiter Antiques, Roger de Ville and David Scriven; while silver and jewelry will be presented by Plaza, S. & A.Thompson, Schredds of London, T. Robert and Henry Nicholls.
Hickmet Fine Art promises beautiful bronze and glass sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries and the Petersfield Bookstore will feature its usual display of local and old books. New to the fair: Shaw Edwards specializes in oak furniture and carvings.
The Petersfield Antiques Fair has been around for almost 50 years and has been hosted by Penman Fairs since 1997. It is a popular event in the South of England social calendar attracting antique collectors from across the region to London. and by the way. All exhibits are tagged with their price, age and description and carefully verified by experts for quality and authenticity.
