The Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2022 (June 13-18) will pay tribute to Swiss animation cinema through more than 100 films presented in 14 special programs. A showcase that will offer the public a very detailed overview of Swiss production over the past hundred years, offering a journey through time through Swiss animation cinema from its beginnings to the international successes of recent years. This special focus was created in collaboration with various Swiss institutions, including Fantoche (Baden), Animatou (Geneva), Cinémathèque suisse (Lausanne), GIFF (Geneva), Lucerne School of Art and Design (HSLU) and Swiss Films .

Since The Loves of Monsieur Vieux Bois (1827) created by the father of comics Rodolphe Topfer and its anime adaptation titled History of Mr Vieux Bois by Lortac and Cave released almost a century later (1921), the Swiss animated film has never ceased to surprise and take off in all genres and all styles. The disciples of the form have become authors in their own right, admired by the public as well as by the critics; we mainly think of Gisele and Nag Ansorge, Julius Pinschwer and Georges Schwizgebeland we cannot fail to mention the brothers Sam and Fred Guillaume (Max & Co. ), Isabelle Favez (who offered us the short film Apple pie), Marina Rosset (short film bear’s hand), Michaela Muller (short film Miramare) Where Michael Frei (short film plug & play), Where Marcel Barelli, Claude Luyet, Claude Gentinette, Anja Kofmel, Zoltan Horvath and Maja Gehrig. Another emblematic example of this effervescence is Bark by Samuel Patley and Silvain Monneywhich won the Cristal for best short film here in Annecy in 2021.

Swiss productions will also be very present in the Official Selection of the festival, as well as at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa), in particular through 13 short films in competition and a pavilion welcoming Swiss talents. . Featured films include The invention at least by a young director Noah Erni and Miracasas by Raphaelle Stolz and Augusto Zanovelloboth honoring the short film competition.

This imposing historical panorama will be further enriched by retrospective screenings dedicated to Claude Barras, Isabelle Favez and Marcel Barelli. The trailer for this new edition of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival was produced by the Geneva studio Nadasdy Film, founded in 2001 by Zoltán Horváth and Nicholas Burlet.
